United Way of Utah County has been mobilizing the community for over 50 years. We always focus on creating solutions that respond to the community's most urgent needs. For example, In the 1980s, we rallied the community to support families, creating Utah County’s only domestic violence shelter and helping to expand a center to stop child abuse. In the 1990s, we collaborated to create sliding scale health centers and volunteer-run networks. In 2011, we focused on childhood literacy and saw literacy improve from 71% to 83%. Today we still maintain many of these essential initiatives and programs, while also turning our attention to the problem of growing anxiety and depression in our community. We fully expect that our method of creating integrated solutions and gathering leaders from all sectors will be as successful in 2017 as it was in 1980, 1990, and 2011.

Camp Floyd Established in 1858, Camp Floyd housed the largest concentration of U.S. troops then in the United State. The troops were sent to Utah to suppress a rumored Mormon rebellion which never took place. The army was recalled back east in 1861 for the Civil War emergency. Today, Camp Floyd State Park's mission is to provide interpretive programs, activities, events along with a museum and exhibits from this historic event. Each year, nearly 7,000 students visit Camp Floyd State Park for a unique, hands-on field trip. Students hear a first-hand account of Camp Floyd, learn to march and drill, make adobe bricks and candles, run a Pony Express course and more! Hundreds of Boy Scouts attend the Johnston's Army Adventure Camps which allows Scouts to travel back in time to 1861 and become soldiers at Camp Floyd. The over-night experience also meets the requirments for the American Heritage Merit Badge. Children ages 8 to 11, attend the parks five History Camps for Kids each Summer. These three-day camps enable children to experience the history of Camp Floyd through 19th century games, drills, marches, setting up camp and conducting a full-scale military exercise! Camp Floyd State Park is growing! Having created partnerships with Utah County and the City of Fairfield, the park is in the process of creating a new visitor center and museum with construction slated for July 2018. This new facility will allow park staff to better interprete and preserve the history of Camp Floyd!
